Bulls Defeat Toledo, 4-3, in Men's Tennis Action

TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team used four wins in singles play to rally from behind and defeat Toledo, 4-3, improving to 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference as the Bulls completed their first weekend of league play.
UB (8-6, 2-0 MAC) picked up singles victories in the first four matches to be completed, including a pair of three-set wins, to close out the homestanding Rockets (18-8, 0-2 MAC).
Freshman Sergio Arevalillo scored the clinching victory for the Bulls as he picked up a three-set win over Terence Weigand in the number five match, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Prior to Arevalillo's clincher, the Bulls got wins from senior Vusa Hove, at number one, sophomore Damien David, at number two, and freshman Ashwin Sharma, at number six. Hove needed three sets to down Tomas Stillman, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, in the number one match. David defeated Grant Adams, 6-3, 6-1. Both Hove and David remain tied for the team lead with 14 singles wins this season. Sharma knocked off Bryant Dudzik in straight sets.
The Bulls needed the four singles wins after dropping the doubles competition as Toledo won in the number one and two matches.
"It's a good win for us. This was a tough match," said UB head coach Lee Nickell. Nickell was pleased with both his upper and lowerclassmen. "The leadership from Damien, Vusa and Yevgeniy [Jason Shkodnik] was huge but I also have to credit our freshmen. They stepped it up today."
UB continues MAC play on Friday, April 12 against Chicago State. First serve is scheduled for 9:00 am.
