MT. PLEASANT, MI - The University at Buffalo softball team dropped both ends of the doubleheader against Central Michigan on Friday afternoon, falling in the first game, 6-1, and dropping the second game, 7-1. The Bulls are now 1-5 in Mid-American Conference play.
The Chippewas used a six-run second inning in the opener to take a commanding lead. Buffalo was able to score in the top of the third as junior Heather Ryder hit her first home run of the season. It would be UB's only run of the game. The Chippewas added another run in the fourth.
Ryder picked up the loss in the game as the Bulls recorded five hits, coming from five different players. The Bulls ended up leaving three runners on base in the game.
The Chippewas also got off to a quick start in the second game as they scored five runs over the first three innings. CMU added a sixth run in the fifth inning, but Buffalo was able to avoid the shutout with a run in the top of the seventh as a trio of freshman combined for the run. Anissa Pinedo led off the inning with a double and was replaced on the bases by Kenzie Koch. A singled to left center from Ryleigh Fitzgerald scored Koch and gave UB its first run.
Freshman Nicole Aviles picked up the loss as she went 2.1 innings. The Bulls had four hits in the game. Pinedo and junior Sammi Gallardo were the only to players to record a hit in both ends of the doubleheader.
The Bulls remain on the road tomorrow when they face Eastern Michigan at 2:00 pm.
