BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo defensive end Steven Means was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 147th pick in the fifth round in the 2013 NFL Draft. Means is projected to play outside linebacker for the Bucs.
A Buffalo native and Grover Cleveland High School graduate, Means capped off a stellar career with an outstanding senior season. En route to earning All-MAC Second Team honors, Means had 77 tackles, just six shy of his previous two seasons combined and his 40 solo stops were six shy of his first three seasons combined. Means had a strong finish to the season as he averaged nine tackles over the last four games of the 2012. He finished his career ranked fourth in school history with 18.5 sacks and 10th in school history with 29.5 tackles for loss.
Means is the 11th player in school history to be selected in the NFL Draft and just the fifth to be picked in the fifth round or sooner. Tampa Bay also signed Willie Moseley to a free agent contract. The UB linebacker had a breakout season in 2012 with 51 tackles, 5.5 for loss, 2.5 sacks an interception and a fumble recovery - all career highs.
