ORLANDO, FL – The University at Buffalo softball team concluded its opening weekend of play on Sunday afternoon, falling to the host Knights, 6-1. UB finishes the weekend with a 1-4 record.
Central Florida struck first as it scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Knights then broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth following a grand slam home run.
The Bulls broke into the scoring column in the top of the fifth as junior Holly Luciano opened the inning with a leadoff walk. Following a UB out, Luciano was driven home on a long double to left center off the bat of freshman Anissa Pinedo, her first career RBI. Buffalo would go on to load the bases in the fifth, but could not convert.
UB used three different pitchers in the game, each of them charged with two runs. In addition to the hit from Pinedo, the Bulls also got hits from sophomore Karly Nevez and junior Tori Pettine.
The Bulls are back in action next weekend when they head to the Louisville for the Cardinal Classic. The Bulls face MAC foe Kent State on Friday at Noon.
