BUFFALO, NY - For the third time this season senior libero Kelly Svoboda has been named the MAC East Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced from it's league headquarters on Monday afternoon. Svoboda is coming off a career-high 33 digs against Ohio this weekend.
Svoboda reached a new career-high in her distinguished four-year career on Saturday night as she averaged over 8.0 digs in her 33-dig performance against the Ohio Bobcats. Svoboda's previous career high was 32, which she set earlier this season. Against Ohio, Svoboda also had two service aces and three assists. On Friday night, Svoboda finished with 28 digs in a five-set match at Kent State. Svoboda has now gone over the 500-dig mark for the first time in her career this season and has 1,819 digs for her career, just 65 away from the school record.
Over the final four regular season matches, Svoboda has a chance to not only break the career digs record, but also the single-season digs record, which she is within 43 of.
The Bulls will face Akron on Thursday evening in their final road match before playing the final three conference matches at home.
