
Bulls Close Season With 3-0 Loss To West Virginia

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team ended its 2013 season on Saturday night with a 3-0 loss to West Virginia. The Bulls close out the season 18-12, tying for the most wins in a season since joining the Mid-American Conference.
The Mountaineers took the contest, 25-23, 25-23, 25-21 as they hit .327 on the night. The Bulls hit .239 for the match. UB led for most of the first set, including up 22-19 late, but West Virginia scored two straight and then with UB up 23-21, the Mountaineers scored the final four points to take the set.
UB scored the first four points of the second set, but West Virginia quickly tied it up and went on to take a 15-9 lead. The Bulls pulled back within two as junior Taylor Pritchett recorded three straight service aces, pulling the Bulls within 15-13. UB was able to fight off two straight set points, but the Mountaineers took the set, 25-23.
The third set featured 10 ties and four lead changes as the teams remained tied late at 21-21, but West Virginia scored the final four points and took the set, 25-21.
Sophomore Megan Lipski led the way with 11 kills and just two errors as she hit .375. Senior Dana Musil added 10 kills in her final match, while senior Carissa McKenna added nine kills in her final contest. Sophomore Amber Hatchett added six kills and just one error as she hit .455.
Senior Dani Reinert finished with 21 assists, while Pritchett added 17 and three aces. As a team, UB had six service aces including one each from Lipski, Musil and McKenna.
Defensively, UB was led by 12 digs from Lipski, while Musil added nine. Senior Kelly Svoboda, UB's career leader in digs and the MAC Defensive Player of the Year, finished with eight digs.
UB had six total blocks, led by five from Hatchett and three from Lain.
The Bulls finish the season 18-12, tying the 2010 team for the most wins in a season since joining the MAC. The match was the final one in the career of UB's six-member senior class.
