BUFFALO, NY - Head coach Felisha Legette-Jack and the Buffalo women's basketball coaching staff announced a pair of signings for the Fall period, with the addition of Mariah Suchan and Destiny Woodard. Suchan is a multi-purpose forward who will come to UB from Wichita, KS, and Woodard is a pure point guard who is the floor general for her high school in Port Orange, FL.
Suchan was an impact performer for her high school team since her debut with the varsity team as a freshman, when she started in 11 games. She blossomed as a sophomore, averaging 13.6 points, ten rebounds and earned her league's defensive player of the year honors. On top of that, she was All-League and was All-State honor mention.
As a junior, she improved on her numbers across the board, averaging 17 points, 12 rebounds and almost three blocks per game. She would post double doubles in 14 games. Currently competing in her final season at Maize South High School, Suchan is also an accomplished AAU performer.
"She's a face-up power forward who can stroke it from the perimeter but doesn't mind mixing it up on the block," head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. "She's an unbelievable student who was considering Ivy League schools before we brought her here thanks to our high academic standards at the University at Buffalo."
Woodard did a little bit of everything for the Atlantic High School Lady Sharks as a junior averaging 17 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals per game while leading the team to the Class 4A Final Four. Her scoring average was second only to teammate Ronni Williams, who is currently in her first season with the Florida Gators. Destiny was voted to the All-County first team and set the school record for three pointers in a single season with 64. On the AAU level, she has competed for Blue Star Florida, a prestigious club that has sent over 15 student athletes to Division I programs in recent years.
"Destiny is a high-IQ point guard who is a strong kid. She likes to attack the basket by passing it in or finding openings on the perimeter," said coach Jack. "I have not seen a guard that can do both equally as well, and the neat thing about her is if they double down off her she is a great three-point shooter. To me, I consider her a student of the game."
Legette-Jack believes the future addition of the duo will have the Bulls in the title chase.
"We're excited with the two additions we have, and we believe they can help us pursue championships."
