UB Women's Cross Country Announces Awards

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's cross country squad announced its team awards for the 2011 season. Head coach Vicki Mitchell and her staff made the following presentations: Christina Clarkin was named as Top Newcomer; Jackie Cavalluzzo earned the Most Improved Award; Katie Sanders won the Coaches' Award and Sam Beim was selected as the Most Valuable Runner.
Clarkin raced in six meets for the Bulls in 2011. She set her fastest 6K time of 24:09.8 to place 78th at the Mid-American Conference Championships. She also turned in a top 5K mark of 19:43 to finish 14th at the UB Stampede Invitational.
Cavalluzzo appeared in five races in 2011. She had a 19:06 clocking for her fastest 5K time at the UB Stampede Invitational. She also finished 51st at the MAC Championships in a top 6K time of 22:55.6.
Sanders raced in five meets, earning UB's top women's finisher position three times. She won the individual title at the UB Stampede Invitational in a season-best 5K time of 18:57, the only runner to finish in under 19 minutes. She was also UB's top finisher at the MAC Championships where she turned in a top 6K time of 22:46.1 to place 48th of 95 entrants.
Beim raced five times in 2011 and was UB's top women's finisher in two meets. She was UB's top runner at Lehigh's Paul Short Invitational where she finished 37th of 385 runners in 23:05 for 6K. She was also UB's top finisher at the NCAA Northeast Regionals as she turned in a 23:11.4 clocking along the 6K course to place 114th in a 243-runner field. Beim had her best 6K time of the season at the MAC Championships in 22:51.6, finishing 50th of 95.
The Bulls finished 10th among 12 squads at the 2011 MAC Championships in Muncie, IN and were 25th of 36 teams at the NCAA Northeast Regionals hosted by the Bulls at the Audubon Golf Course.
