
UB Men's Cross Country Announces Awards

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's cross country squad announced its team awards for the 2011 season. Head coach Vicki Mitchell and her staff made the following presentations: Alex Saavedra was named as Top Newcomer; Mike Pressler earned the Most Improved Award; Dylan Conway won the Coaches' Award and John Inzina was selected as the Most Valuable Runner.
Saavedra participated in five of UB's six meets in 2011. He posted his fastest 8K time of 25:08.9 in his collegiate debut as he finished third of 58 runners at the UB Stampede Invitational. He also finished 37th at the MAC Championships in 25:25.6 for 8K and turned in a 33:30.6 clocking for 10K at the NCAA Northeast Regionals.
Pressler appeared in five meets during the fall. He set his top 8K time of 24:51.7 at the MAC Championships, earning second-team All-MAC honors for his 12th-place finish. He also was UB's top finisher in 32:18.2 for 10K at the NCAA Northeast Regionals as he placed 28th among 240 runners.
Conway raced in five of UB's six meets in 2011. He finished fourth at the UB Stampede Invitational and set his top 8K time of 24:56.9 at the MAC Championships, placing 15th. He also finished 38th of 240 at the NCAA Northeast Regionals in 32:25.3 for 10K. He was named MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week on October 7 and earned a spot on the Academic All-MAC squad for cross country.
Inzina also saw action in five meets during the 2011 campaign. He earned second-team All-MAC honors with his eighth place finish at the league championships in 24:47.0 setting his top 8K mark of the season. Inzina also finished 37th of 240 at the Northeast Regionals in 32:24.7 for 10K. Inzina was also named to the Academic All-MAC Cross Country team in the fall of 2011.
The Bulls finished third among nine squads at the 2011 MAC Championships in Muncie, IN and were seventh of 33 teams, the squad's highest-ever finish, at the NCAA Northeast Regionals hosted by the Bulls at the Audubon Golf Course.
