KALAMAZOO, MI - The University at Buffalo softball team ran into a solid pitching performance from Western Michigan's Meredith Whitney as the Bulls fell to the Broncos, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Buffalo starter Tori Speckman was also solid throughout, despite allowing a three-run home run in the fifth inning. The Broncos also recorded a run in the bottom of the first. Outside of that, Speckman allowed just five hits and one walk, while striking out four.
However, Whitney was just a little bit better for WMU. She allowed just two hits, while striking out eight UB batters to pick up her 12th win of the season.
The Bulls got hits from two of their hottest hitters of late. Freshman Alexis Curtiss hit a two-out double in the first inning and junior Alyssa Ward hit a lead off single in the second. Curtiss reached base all three times on the day as she also walked twice.
The loss drops Speckman's record to 8-10 on the season.
Buffalo and Western Michigan conclude the two-game series tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
