BUFFALO, NY - For the first time this season the University at Buffalo volleyball team swept the MAC East Player of the Week awards as junior Dani Reinert was named the Offensive Player of the Week and fellow classmate Kelly Svoboda was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Reinert had one of her best weekends in a UB uniform, coming back to play after suffering a serious ankle injury just two weeks ago. Reinert led the Bulls to a 3-0 sweep of Miami on Saturday evening, where she finished with 40 assists, in just the three-set contest. Reinert also helped the Bulls force five sets at Bowling Green on Friday night, where she dished out 45 assists, while adding three aces from the service line. With Reinert running the offense, UB hit .239 over the weekend.
Svoboda, who was named Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, recorded her fourth and fifth straight matches of 20 digs or more this weekend as she finished with 21 digs in both of UB's matches. In the close five-set loss at Bowling Green, Svoboda added the rare libero kill as well as six assists and a service ace as the Bulls were unable to upset the Falcons. In the victory at Miami, Svoboda finished with two service aces in addition to her 21 kills. Over the weekend, Svoboda did not commit a single reception error on 19 attempts.
The Bulls conclude their season this weekend with a pair of home matches beginning Friday night against Ohio. Match time is set for 7:00 pm.
