Bulls Fall Short At Kent State

KENT, OH – The struggles on the road continued for the University at Buffalo volleyball team on Friday evening as they were unable to ride the momentum from a first set victory, falling to Kent State, 3-1. The Bulls matched the Golden Flashes in nearly every statistical category, but struggled with 12 service errors.
The Bulls dominated the opening set as they went on a late 7-1 run to close it out, 25-14. The UB defense forced Kent State into seven hitting errors in the opening set to help in the victory. The Golden Flashes came back to win set number two as they hit .481 and committed just one error in the set.
Both teams turned up the offense in the third set as UB hit .519 in the set, but the Golden Flashes were nearly as good, hitting .485, and capitalized on other Buffalo errors to take the set, 25-22.
Kent State got out to an 8-2 lead in the fourth set, but the Bulls put up a fight, tying the set up four times late. However, each time the Golden Flashes had an answer and finally took the set, 26-24, for the match.
Buffalo got an outstanding performance from sophomore Liz Scott, who had 20 kills and just two errors on 36 total attacks. Junior Carissa McKenna added 11 kills, while freshman Megan Lipski finished with nine. Junior Dani Reinert added two kills and a match-high 48 assists.
Defensively, junior Kelly Svoboda finished with a match-high 19 digs, while Lipski and Dana Musil each added seven digs.
Kent State was led by 20 kills from Tinuke Aderemi-Ibitola and Kathy Krupa, who finished with six total blocks. Jenny Buczek added 12 digs for the Golden Flashes.
Buffalo remains on the road tomorrow night when they face Ohio at 7:00 pm.
