
Bulls Swept By Akron, 3-0

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team lost its second straight match on Thursday night, falling to MAC East Division foe, Akron, 3-0. The loss drops UB to 8-15 on the season and 2-9 in conference play with five regular season matches left.
The Zips took the contest 25-20, 25-15, 25-23 as they led for almost the entire first and second sets and they also hit .266 on the night, opposed to just .133 for the Bulls.
Despite falling in the first two sets, UB came out of the break and had a chance to win the third set going on a 7-1 run midway through the set to take a 21-16 lead. UB continued to lead by five at 22-17, however Akron answered with a 6-0 run to go up 23-22 and went on to win the set, 25-23.
"We made way too many errors tonight and it cost us the match," said head coach Todd Kress. "I thought Liz played outstanding tonight, but we need to go more solid contributions from everyone if we want to come away with a victory."
Liz Scott led the way for the Bulls with 15 kills and no errors on 27 attempts as she finished with a .556 hitting percentage. Scott added six digs and three blocks on the evening. Freshman Tahleia Bishop finished with eight kills, while junior Carissa McKenna had five. Sophomore Kayla Nagle picked up the start at setter this evening due to injury and finished with a match-high 31 assists, adding four kills and four digs.
Defensively, junior Kelly Svoboda had a match-high 21 digs, while McKenna added seven. Freshman Akeila Lain finished with a match-best five blocks.
Akron was led by 12 kills from Chelsea Harvey and nine kills from Alex Cocklin. The Zips had four players in double figures in digs led by 11 from Jill Paluch.
UB wraps up its four-match home stand on Saturday evening when it hosts Ball State at 7:30 pm. For those attending the football game in the afternoon, show your ticket stub to get into the volleyball match for free.
