PROVIDENCE, RI – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Brown on Saturday in the first day of a weekend trip to Rhode Island. The Bulls are 0-2 thus far for the spring season.
The Bulls scored a pair of singles wins with freshman Damien David and junior Vusa Hove emerging victorious. David, playing first singles, knocked off Brandon Burke by identical 6-4, 6-4 scores. Hove, at third singles, defeated Mike Hill, 6-4, 6-0. Senior Wojciech Starakiewicz, playing second singles, forced Soufiane Azargui into a third set after the pair split the opening two sets, however, Starakiewicz fell 7-5 in the final set.
Starakiewicz and Hove scored a doubles victory in the number one match as the pair defeated Azargui and Michael Reichmann, 8-6. The other two doubles matches were won by the Bears by 8-4 decisions.
"We aren't happy with a loss but for the most part we played much better today than we did last week," said UB head coach Lee Nickell. "I am particularly proud of our composure and with the way Vusa Hove played in singles and doubles. We need to find ways to win down low, and plan on learning more when we play Bryant tomorrow."
The Bulls tangle with Bryant on Sunday morning beginning at 8:30 am.
