
Bulls Drop Weekend Finale To Dayton

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team finished in second place at the 2011 Blue and White Classic, after to falling to Dayton, 3-0, Saturday night at Alumni Arena. The Bulls finish the weekend 2-1 as their record now stands at 7-6. Sophomores Kelly Svoboda and Dani Reinert were both named to the all-tournament team.
The Flyers, who are receiving votes in the Top 25 national poll, took the match 25-13, 25-12, 25-9 as they hit .521, opposed to the Bulls who hit negative at -.036. Dayton had two players in double figures in kills, led by 12 from Rachel Krabacher, who was named the tournament MVP. Megan Campbell, who was selected to the all-tournament team, had 11 kills and just one error on 15 attempts.
"Tonight we didn't do the little things that we did last night and earlier this week against Niagara," said head coach Todd Kress. "We are going to have to play a lot better than that, especially against a great team like Dayton. We saw some good things this past weekend, but we have a lot of work to do before we begin conference play."
Dana Musil led the way with seven kills, while senior Abby Niekamp added four kills and no errors on five swings. Liz Scott, Alessandra Jovy-Heuser and Kaja Schirmer each added two kills.
Defensively, Svoboda recorded 11 digs, while Scott added five. Jovy-Heuser had a team-high three total blocks.
The Bulls will begin conference play on Thursday night at Akron. The match is set to begin at 7:00 pm.
