
Bulls To Host Blue And White Classic This Weekend

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team will be host the 2011 Blue and White Classic this weekend at Alumni Arena. Joining the Bulls this weekend are Cornell, Dayton and Syracuse.
Action will begin on Friday evening as Cornell and Dayton square off at 4:30 pm, followed by Syracuse and Buffalo at 7:00 pm.
On Saturday, Buffalo will start things off at 10:00 am against Cornell. The Bulls will be hosting Kids' Day where fans are invited to stick around and meet the team after the match. There will be free pizza provided to the first 50 kids 12 and under.
Syracuse and Dayton will complete the morning session at 12:30 and then all four teams will return to play Saturday evening. Syracuse and Cornell will meet up at 5:00 pm with Dayton and Buffalo finishing things off at 7:30 pm.
The Bulls enter the weekend with a 5-5 record after defeating Niagara in their home opener on Tuesday evening. Senior Abby Niekamp currently leads the Bulls in kills (100) and hitting percentage (.276). Sophomore Dani Reinert has recorded 284 assists, while fellow sophomore Kelly Svoboda leads the Bulls with 163 digs.
Syracuse won all three matches last weekend to capture the Long Island Tournament championship and improve to 8-2 on the season. The offense is led by Noemie Lefebvre with 3.30 kills per set, while Andrea Fisher is chipping in 2.08 kps. Setter Laura Homann is handing out 9.86 assists per set and defensive specialist Ashley Williams leads the team with 4.95 digs per set.
Cornell is 2-5 on the season after finishing 1-2 at the Virginia Commonwealth Tournament, winning the final match against North Carolina A&T. Cornell is led by Janel Forte, who has 52 kills on the season. Jordan Reeder has recorded 162 assists, while Risa Ka'awa has a team-high 84 digs. As a team, Cornell is hitting .195 through its first seven matches.
Dayton was nationally-ranked through the first two weeks of the season before losing five straight matches to Tennessee, No. 7 Illinois, Pepperdine, No. 24 Florida State and No. 20 Michigan. The Flyers are led by Rachel Krabacher, who averages 4.58 kills per set, while Yvonne Martin and Megan Campbell are posting 2.79 and 2.78 kps, respectively. Setter Samantha Selsky has posted 10.0 assists per set and libero Paige Vargas leads the team with an impressive 5.0 digs per set.
