UB Student-Athletes Take Part In Habitat For Humanity

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo had members of six different teams take part in Habitat For Humanity this past weekend. The entire softball and men's tennis teams were represented as well as members of the Track and Field Team, Rowing squad and women's basketball team.
The Bulls were assisting in the restoration of a home that caught on fire in the City of Buffalo, just past South Campus on Main Street. The team spent most of the morning working inside the home, cleaning up a lot of the wreckage from the blaze.
"It was a great first experience for many of us," said senior softball player Kristin Waldron. "It was shocking to see how the house was on the outside; and then you go inside and see nothing but what was left from the fire. It was devastating seeing how much damage was done, but the UB Bulls got a lot done in the amount of time we spent there and it was a great feeling as we walked out, knowing that helped make a difference."
"The city of Buffalo has been very supportive of UB and its athletics programs over the years," added men's tennis sophomore Jason Shkodnik. "One of our goals as a team coming into the new year was to be very active in the community and giving back our time and efforts. We definitely took a step into achieving this goal this past weekend, and it also felt good helping families in need as well as bonding as a team."
This project is just one of the many that the UB student-athletes are involved in through out the year around the community.
