
Bulls Fall In Four To St. John's

QUEENS, NY - The University at Buffalo volleyball team completed its season-opening nine-match road trip with a four-set loss to St. John's on Saturday night in the final match of the St. John's Kaiser Classic. The loss drops UB's record to 4-5 on the season.
The Red Storm took the contest, 25-10, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23 as they hit .119 opposed to UB's .042. After St. John's took the first set easily, the Bulls put up a strong fight for the rest of the evening before coming up short.
The Bulls were led by a career-high nine kills from freshman Sable Staller, sharing team-high honors with sophomore Christine Fritsche. Senior Abby Niekamp added eight kills, while Carissa McKenna had seven. Sophomore Dani Reinert finished with 37 assists and two service aces, adding 10 digs on the night. Following the match Niekamp was named to the All-Tournament team.
Sophomore Kelly Svoboda led the way with 21 digs, while Fritsche added 11. Staller also had seven digs and a block assist. McKenna led in the blocking department with seven total blocks, including two solos. Freshman Alessandra Jovy-Heauser added four block assists for UB.
The Bulls will now come home for the first of four straight matches, beginning on Tuesday evening against Niagara. The match is set to begin at 7:00 pm.
