
Bulls Drop Morning Affair To Northeastern, 3-0

QUEENS, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team ran into a red-hot Northeastern squad on Saturday morning, falling to the Huskies, 3-0, in the second match of the St. John's Kaiser Classic. The loss evens UB's record to 4-4 on the season, leading up to tonight's tournament finale.
Despite rallies from the Bulls in the second and third sets, Northeastern took the match, 25-14, 25-23, 25-23, hitting .353 opposed to just .286 for Buffalo.
With the Bulls trailing just 13-12 in the opening set, Northeastern went on to score 12 of the final 14 points, hitting .640 to UB's .242.
Northeastern stormed out to a 19-9 lead in the second set, continuing to hold a big advantage late at 24-17 before the Bulls started to rally. UB scored six straight points, two off service aces from Dani Reinert, to pull within 24-23. However, Northeastern used a kill to end the rally and take the set. UB did hit a season-high .652 in the second set, recording 15 kills and no errors on 23 swings.
The third set was close throughout with Northeastern leading for much of it, until the Bulls pulled even at 15-15. UB did go on to take a 17-16 lead in the set, but the Huskies regained the lead and ended up taking the set, 25-23.
The Bulls were led by 10 kills from Dana Musil, while Alessandra Jovy-Heuser and Abby Niekamp each finished with eight. Carissa McKenna added six kills and freshman Sable Staller had five. Sophomore Dani Reinert added 32 assists and a match-high three service aces.
Defensively, sophomore Kelly Svoboda had 13 digs, while Reinert added eight. Musil and Christine Fritsche each had five digs for UB. The Bulls had seven total team blocks, led by five block assists from McKenna and four from Musil.
The Bulls conclude play in the St. John's Kaiser Classic this evening when they face the host St. John's Red Storm at 5:00 pm.
