BUFFALO, NY - Following a week of five productive games, sophomore catcher Tom Murphy was named the Mid American Conference's East Division Player of the Week. The honor is his second of the season.
Murphy keyed a breakout week for the Bulls, batting .526 over five games, hitting his ninth home run of the season and two doubles over the week. He scored six runs, drove in six runs and drew three walks, giving the opposing pitchers a fit in every at bat. He slugged .737 in the five games, leading the team to three wins including the second conference win of the season with a 7-5 win over Ohio. In a 14-12 extra-inning loss to Ohio on Friday, Murphy batted 4-6 with a home run and four runs batted in.
For the season, Murphy is leading the team with a .373 batting average, nine home runs and 42 runs batted in. His nine home runs are the third most in a single season in program history and the 42 RBI are the sixth most.
The Bulls will have little time to rest, playing two against Le Moyne Monday before traveling to face Miami (OH) for three games this upcoming weekend.
