
UB Women's Cross Country Announces Awards

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's cross country squad announced its team awards for the 2010 season. Head coach Vicki Mitchell and her staff made the following presentations: Becky Martin was named as Top Newcomer; Sam Beim earned the Most Improved Award; Emma Denton won the Coaches' Award and Christine Sprehe was selected as the Most Valuable Runner.
Martin appeared in six meets in 2010. She posted her top 5K time of 19:20 at the Notre Dame Invitational, racing in the open division and finishing 20th. She finished 87th at the Mid-American Conference Championships turning in a top 6K mark of 23:58.4.
Beim raced in six meets and was UB's top individual finisher twice. She set a top 5K time of 18:59 at the Notre Dame Invitational, placing 52nd of 159 runners in the main field. She also placed seventh as UB's top runner at the Bulls' home meet, the UB Stampede Invitational, completing the Beaver Island State Park 5K course in 19:20. Beim was 50th at the MAC Championships in 22:49.4 for 6K. She set her top 6K time of the season as UB's top finisher at the NCAA Northeast Championships in 22:43.2, placing 141st of 247 individuals.
Denton competed in six events during the 2010 campaign. She turned in her top 5K time of 19:16 at the Notre Dame Invitational and was 14th in 19:55 at the UB Stampede Invitational. Denton finished with a best 6K mark of 22:59 at the Penn State National Invitational. She finished 68th in 23:12.7 for 6K at the MAC Championships.
Sprehe raced six times during the season and was UB's top placer at the MAC Championships. She finished in 22:40.2 for 45th place in a 105-runner field for her top 6K mark of the season at the league meet. She also had a top 5K time of 19:02 for 53rd place at the Notre Dame Invitational.
The Bulls finished 11th among 12 squads at the 2010 MAC Championships in Kalamazoo, MI and were 26th of 35 teams at the NCAA Northeast Regionals in Madison, CT.
