WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis dropped its second match of weekend play as the Bulls fell to Western Michigan, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville.
The Bulls (4-8, 0-2 MAC) picked up a doubles win from the number one duo of Diana Popescu and Miranda Podlas. The UB tandem jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Western Michigan's April Kerr and Nini Sujashvili before the Broncos rallied to tie the contest at 3-3. From there, the Bulls won the next five games to take an 8-3 victory. UB was unable however to claim the second or third doubles contest as the Broncos (8-9, 1-1 MAC) earned the opening point.
The singles matches were tight throughout with three matches going three sets, including one in a super-tiebreaker. At first singles, Popescu scored UB's point with her three-set win over Maggie Remynse, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-2, in a match lasting almost two and a half hours. Podlas, playing sixth singles, split tiebreakers with Rachel Denny before falling in the super-tiebreaker, 10-8.
