
Bulls Open MAC Play With 5-2 Loss to Bowling Green

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opened the Mid-American Conference portion of its schedule on Friday afternoon with a 5-2 loss to Bowling Green at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville. The Bulls picked up victories at first and sixth singles as well as one doubles win.
The match was tight for the doubles portion of the contest with the Bulls (4-7, 0-1 MAC) and the Falcons (10-3, 1-0 MAC) exchanging 8-6 decisions in the top two matches. UB's number two team of Aleksandra Petrova and Kira Golenko defeated Katie Grubb and Jade Johnson to improve to 2-0 as a doubles tandem this season. The doubles point was decided in a tiebreaker as Bowling Green's Nikki Chiricosta and Mary Hill defeated UB's Marta Stoyanova and Shelby Bates, 8-6.
The Bulls picked up a pair of singles wins for their two points. At sixth singles, Miranda Podlas scored a straight-sets win over Johnson, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to improve to 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the sixth slot. Diana Popescu needed three sets to register her team-best 10th singles win of the year in the number one match over Christine Chirricosta, 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-4.
UB continues the homestand when they host Western Michigan on Saturday at 1:00 pm at the Miller Tennis Center.
