KENT, OH - The University at Buffalo volleyball team wrapped up its 2011 season on Saturday evening with a 3-0 loss at Kent State. The Bulls were unable to qualify for the MAC Tournament as their season comes to an end with an 11-19 record and a 4-12 mark in MAC play.
A team that entered the season with just one senior and no juniors, the Bulls struggled with their youth in conference play, despite sweeping season series from Akron and Bowling Green.
Tonight, the Bulls dropped their match to Kent State, 25-16, 25-22, 25-13. Again, UB got its biggest performances from its freshmen, who played one final time in their rookie season.
Liz Scott led the way with 13 kills, while Alessandra Jovy-Heuser had seven kills and just one error on 13 total swings. Fellow freshman Sable Staller and sophomore Dana Musil each added five kills on the night.
Sophomore Dani Reinert finished with 30 assists, giving her 1,177 on the season, the fifth most in school history. Her 10.32 assists per set are good for fourth in school history for a single season. Reinert completed the double-double with a team-high 12 digs.
Sophomore Kelly Svoboda added six digs as she finished with 473 on the year, good enough for sixth in school history. Svoboda also finished the evening with a team-best two service aces.
Tonight's match was the final one in the career of senior Abby Niekamp.
