
Five Bulls Named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

BUFFALO, NY - Over 4,000 student-athletes representing 707 different academic institutions were named as a 2011 NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete, the Association announced Thursday. Amongst those were five players from the University at Buffalo softball team.
Named to the squad from the Bulls was Alex Bejarano, Ashley Bertot, Danielle Fields, Sammi Gallardo and Holly Johnson. They joined 46 other players from the Mid-American Conference on this year's list.
The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2010-11 academic year. This year's total of 4,332 honorees bested last year's total by over 30 student-athletes.
Both Gallardo and Johnson are back this season on the 2012 team, which begins its season on Feb. 10 at the Jacksonville Tournament.
