Bulls Win Fifth Straight Women's Swim Meet

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team extended its winning streak to five consecutive dual meet victories with a 174.5-118.5 decision over Mid-American Conference rival Ball State Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena Natatorium.
The Bulls (6-2, 3-1 MAC) jumped out to big lead, winning 11 of the first 14 events, before exhibitioning the final two races. Four UB swimmers ended the afternoon as double event winners.
Distance freestyler Jordan Deren, who won two events on Friday in UB's victory over Akron, scored a pair of wins on Saturday. She turned in a season-best time to win the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:32.40 and followed with a win in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.12.
Sprint specialist Caroline Simmons captured a pair of freestyle races. Simmons claimed first in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.70, the last event of the first session of the meet. Then, after the mandatory break, she won the first event of the second session, the 100-yard freestyle in 52.03.
Kayla Pratt-Collins won both backstroke events. She won the 100-yard backstroke in 58.75, tying her season-best mark and then claimed the 200-yard backstroke in 2:06.68.
Brynn Marecki swept the breaststroke races. Marecki won the 100-yard distance in 1:05.63. She then set a season-best mark in the 200-yard race in 2:22.15.
Logan Mason won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.19, a season-best for the sophomore, and the second fastest time in the event by a Bull this season, two-hundredths of a second off Deren's 1:54.17 from Friday's win over Akron.
Freshman Marissa Murphy tied her season-best mark with her victory in the 100-yard butterfly in 57.36. She also swam the fastest 200-yard individual medley as an exhibition entrant with her 2:06.56 clocking, another season-best.
The Bulls also won the 200-yard medley relay with the foursome of Pratt-Collins, Marecki, Murphy and Simmons finishing in 1:45.95.
Ball State (4-3, 1-2 MAC) divers won both springboard events on Saturday as Christina Riordan won the three-meter event (312.00) and Whitney Adams won the one-meter event (257.02).
The Bulls end the regular season next Saturday at home against St. Bonaventure at 1:00 pm.
