
Men's Swimmers Nipped at Penn State, 129-110

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – The University at Buffalo's men's swimming and diving team dropped a 129-110 decision on Friday at Penn State. The Bulls are 5-2 overall as they head into their final dual meet on Saturday against St. Bonaventure.
UB scored first-place points in five of the 13 events, sweeping both diving events.
Jared Heine won the 200-yard freestyle for UB's first victory in the meet. Heine took the race in a season-best 1:42.12, holding off Penn State's Scott Marino, who finished second in 1:42.24. Heine also scored a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 46.48. Matt Schwippert took the 200-yard backstroke in 1:50.05
The Bulls also picked up a first-place finish in the meet's final event, the 200-yard free relay. The foursome of Simon Proudfoot, Mike Dugan, Ryan Smrekar and Heine touched the wall in 1:24.56.
UB also swept the diving competitions. In the one-meter event, Colin Patrican took first place with a six-dive total of 303.30 points. Kenny Rhoades won the three-meter competition with 354.45 points while Patrican was second with 337.20 points.
The Bulls return home to Alumni Arena Natatorium to host St. Bonaventure in the regular season finale on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The UB women will also host the Bonnies at the same time to conclude their dual meet season.
