Bulls Pick Up Win Over Miami

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball team hosted a doubleheader against Miami this afternoon, defeating the RedHawks, 4-1, in game one, but dropping game two, 2-1, to split the series. Andi Saucier and Sharon Barr each hit home runs for Buffalo. Saucier's home run was the first of her career as she led the team offensively with two RBIs.

In the early game, the Bulls got on the board first, with Barr walking to first and advancing on a single from Alyssa Ward. With two runners on, Saucier perfectly placed the ball to center field to send in the run. Miami came back with a quick run of their own as Taylor Rice homered to start off the third inning, but the rest of the game would be all Buffalo. The Bulls scored another run in the bottom of the third, asKristin Waldron singled to get on base and was sent home whenJessica Griffin hit her fourth double of the season to drive Waldron in. The Bulls increased their lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring an unearned run off a Miami error as Ashley Bertot and Kristen Gallipanieach successfully stole a base, with Gallipani earning the score on a fielding error by the Miami shortstop. The Bulls capped off the game with a late home run from Saucier, who hit her first collegiate home run over the center field fence, securing the 4-1 win.
Barr pitched the complete game, picking up her 12th win of the season, holding the RedHawks to three hits and a walk, while striking out six batters in seven innings.

Game two started with a scoreless first inning, but Barr got the Bulls on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the second. Miami scored two runs in the top of the third after a series of wild pitches to take their first lead of the series, and eventually win the game. The Bulls had a chance in the bottom of the fifth with Saucier hitting a single to third base to start of the inning. Gallipani was hit by the pitch to put two runners on, but the Miami defense put a halt on the rally, catching pinch runner Lindsay Hampton at home plate to keep the lead and seal the win. The Bulls edged out the RedHawks in hits, 7-6, in a relatively even matchup.
Barr pitched the complete second game, striking out five batters.
The Bulls will host Niagara in a midweek non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 21 at 3:00 pm at Nan Harvey Field, before heading out on their final road trip of the season. The Bulls will travel to conference rivals Akron and Ohio next weekend.
