Bulls Drop Weekend Opener to Kent State

KENT, OH – The University at Buffalo softball team opened their weekend campaign at Kent State this afternoon, falling to the Golden Flashes 8-2. Candice Sheehan and Kristin Waldron earned the RBIs for Buffalo.

The Golden Flashes scored early and often as Amy Hair hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second to start things off. The Bulls countered the score in the top of the third inning with a sacrifice fly from Sheehan as pinch runner Kristen Gallipani scored the run. Hair homered again in the top of the fourth for the Golden Flashes, this time earning two RBIs on the way to a four-run inning for the Golden Flashes. Kent State went on to score another run in the bottom of the fifth and a pair in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.
The Bulls put up another run in the top of the sixth as Sheehan started off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Waldron doubled to right center to drive home the run but it wasn't enough as the Golden Flashes went on to win 8-2. Jessica Griffin and Jaime Sheffler each added a hit for Buffalo.

Terese Diaz earned the start on the mound, striking out two batters in one inning, stranding three batters in the bottom of the first to hold off the Golden Flashes. Sharon Barr finished the game, earning the loss, pitching five innings and striking out eight batters.
Buffalo will conclude their series with Kent State on Sunday. The Bulls and the Golden Flashes are slated for a 1:00 pm start tomorrow afternoon at the "Diamond at Dix" in Kent, Ohio.
