Kourtney Brown And Abby Dowd Pick Up All-MAC Honors

BUFFALO, NY – Junior Kourtney Brown became just the second UB player ever to be named first-team All-MAC as the Mid-American Conference announced their postseason honors on Tuesday morning. Brown was also named the league's Defensive Player of the Year, while freshman Abby Dowd was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team.
Brown becomes UB's first All-MAC First Team selection since Tiffany Bell in the 2000-01 season. She is also just the second UB player to be named Defensive Player of The Year, following Sonia Ortega, who also picked up that honor in 2000-01. Dowd is the fourth UB player to be named to the All-Freshman team following Kim Kilpela (1999-00), Heather Turner (2004-05) and Jamie Schiebner (2005-06).
Brown finished the season averaging 17.8 points and 11.5 rebounds to lead the MAC in that category. Brown is currently fourth in the nation in rebounding and second in offensive rebounds. She set the UB single-season rebounding record with 346 and places third in MAC history. Brown led the league with 63 blocked shots, second in school history. During the course of the season, Brown recorded 19 double-doubles, a school record, and had 11 20-point games. She had career highs of 33 points and 22 rebounds in UB's season-opening win over Niagara. Brown also set the school record for points in a season with 535, breaking her mark of 532 that she set last year. She became just the second player in Mid-American Conference history to hold both the school's single-season scoring and rebounding record, and the first to do it in the same season. Brown was named MAC East Player of the Week four times, tied for the most in the league.
"Kourtney is one of the most consistent players game in and game out," said head coach Linda Hill-MacDonald. "The way she is able to produce on both ends of the floor against double and triple teams is amazing. Kourtney's focus throughout the season despite our record is a tribute to her competitive nature and I look forward to her having another Player of the Year type season next year."
Brown was joined on the first team by Eastern Michigan's Tavelyn James, Toledo's Tanika Mays, Jamilah Humes from Kent State and Bowling Green's Lauren Prochaska, who was named MAC Player of the Year.
"I think the decision to place Abby on the All-Freshman team was a no brainer," said Hill-MacDonald, "She started for us most of the season and played with poise and maturity throughout the year. The coaches across the league saw her potential and what she meant to this team and I am thrilled to have her for three more seasons."
Dowd was joined on the All-Freshman team by Akron's Rachel Tecca, Central Michigan's Rachel Mauk and Miami's Kirsten Olowinski and Courtney Osborn. Osborn was named the Freshman of the Year.
