LONG BEACH, CA – The University at Buffalo softball team continued play at the Long Beach State Invitational today, falling to Purdue, 9-2, and dropping the nightcap to Long Beach State, 2-0. The Bulls now stand at 7-11 overall on the season.
In the first game, the Bulls and the Boilermakers battled back and forth for the first three innings with the game tied at two after the third. With Kristen Gallipani and Dominique Carcone on base, Kristin Waldron singled through the right side to drive home Buffalo's first run of the day in the bottom of the second. The Bulls scored another in the next inning, asAlyssa Ward singled to start. Taylor Franich walked and Jessica Griffin was hit by the pitch to load the bases, allowing Terese Diaz to earn the RBI with a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt. But that would be it for the Bulls, as the Boilermakers went on a scoring spree, earning seven runs in the next two innings to ultimately doom the Bulls. Buffalo had nine hits throughout the game, with Franich and Ashley Bertot tallying two each.

In the nightcap, Buffalo took on the host team, Long Beach State, in a low scoring affair. The 49ers held the Bulls to one hit in the game, with Waldron earning the only hit. Long Beach State scored the deciding run in the top of the fifth inning as the remainder of the game was a battle of the defense. Griffin led the Bulls on the defensive front, picking up 10 putouts at first base. The 49ers scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to secure their win.
