
Bulls Fall To Kent State, 3-1

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team struggled on senior day as the Bulls fell to Kent State, 3-1, on Saturday evening in their final regular season match at Alumni Arena. The loss drops UB's record to 16-14 on the season and 4-10 in the MAC.
The Golden Flashes took the contest 25-15, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21 as they hit .302 opposed to Buffalo's .209. UB had its best performance in the second when it hit .278, taking the set 25-23 and tying things up at 1-1 in the match. The Bulls stormed out to a 9-3 lead in the third, but Kent State quickly responded and tied things up at 14-14. The Bulls were within 18-17 in the set when Kent State ended it on a 7-3 run. The Golden Flashes clinched the match in the forth as they led for most of the set after jumping out to a 6-2 lead.
Junior Abby Niekamp led the way with 11 kills, while freshman Christine Fritsche had nine. Freshman Carissa McKenna established a new career high eight kills and seniors Kristin Bignell and Marisa Hornbaker each had seven. Fellow senior Kayla Govier finished with five kills, while Lindsey Schlegel added a team-high 33 assists and the team's only service ace.
Defensively, freshman Kelly Svoboda had 15 digs, while Fritsche added seven and Schlegel and Dana Musil each had six. Bignell led the team with five blocks, including two solos. McKenna had three blocks, including two solos, and Niekamp finish with two total blocks. Govier and Musil each had one.
The Bulls now hit the road for their final two regular season matches, beginning on Thursday at Akron. UB will finish at Toledo on Saturday.
