
Volleyball's Season Comes To An End In MAC Quarterfinals

TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo volleyball team ended their most successful season since 1996 on Friday night, falling in the MAC Quarterfinals to Ohio, 3-0, at the SeaGate Center. It was the second straight year that UB has made it to the quarterfinals. Their record finishes at 18-16.
The Bobcats took the match 25-20, 25-22, 25-8 as they hit .244 for the contest. UB struggled with errors all match as it hit just .019. Ohio led 17-9 early in the first set when a 7-2 Buffalo run pulled it to within 19-16. The Bobcats went back up 23-17 when the Bulls scored three straight points to pull them within 23-20 before Ohio would take the set with the final two points.
The Bobcats got off to a fast start in the second set as well, going up 6-1. The Bulls cut it to within 11-10 and eventually tied the set up at 18-18. With things tied at 20-20, the Bobcats scored two straight points and five of the final seven points for the victory. Ohio stormed out to a 14-4 lead in the third set, taking the match.
The Bulls were led by Kayla Govier, who had nine kills. Freshman Dana Musil added eight kills and Marisa Hornbaker had seven. Senior Kristin Bignell had three kills and three block assists. Defensively, freshman Kelly Svoboda had 11 digs, while Musil finished with seven and senior Lindsey Schlegel finished with six.
The match was the final one in the careers of Bignell, Govier, Hornbaker and Schlegel. The group leaves UB with 34 wins over the last two seasons, which is one more victory than the previous four years before that combined. They also led UB two its first two MAC Quarterfinal appearances and its most wins since the 1996 season.
