Abby Niekamp Named Second-Team All-MAC

BUFFALO, NY – Junior middle blocker Abby Niekamp has been named to the All-MAC Second Team the league announced Thursday night at its annual awards banquet. Niekamp currently leads the Bulls in hitting percentage.
Niekamp is currently second on the team with 286 kills and her .348 hitting percentage is currently second in the MAC and seventh all-time in school history. Niekamp has recorded 70 kills in her last five matches combined, helping the Bulls to three wins in those last five matches. Earlier this season she was named MAC East Offensive Player of the Week finishing with 32 kills en route to the Bulls winning the Blue and White Classic.
Niekamp shattered all of her numbers from last season as she had just 128 kills, 158 less than this season. Niekamp also added nine service aces this year, the first nine of her UB career. She also has one more solo block this season, than last season.
Niekamp has helped lead the Bulls with 18 wins, their most since 1996. UB has reached its second straight MAC Quarterfinals as it faces Ohio tomorrow night at the SeaGate Center in Toledo, Oh. The match begins at 7:00 pm.
