
Bulls End Regular Season With 3-0 Loss To Toledo

TOLEDO, OH – The University at Buffalo volleyball team hit the road for the final time during the 2010 regular season, but dropped a tight one with Toledo, 3-0. The Bulls will now begin the MAC Tournament with a first round match on the road on Tuesday.
The Rockets took the contest 25-21, 25-23, 26-24 despite UB outhitting the Rockets, .286 to .224. Toledo was able to use a strong performance from the service line with seven aces. The Bulls led for much of the first set, leading by as much as 20-16 before the Rockets responded with six straight points to go up 22-20.
The Rockets began the second set on a 12-3 run, but the Bulls responded to go up 20-19. The teams were tied up at 23-23 in the second set when Toledo scored the final two points of the set. The third set was tight as well as both teams were tied up at 20-20. The set remained tied at 24-24 when Toledo ended the match with two straight kills.
Junior Abby Niekamp led the way with 14 kills and just one error on 31 total swings. Senior Marisa Hornbaker had nine kills and no errors, while Kayla Govier had eight kills. Freshman Dana Musil also finished with eight kills, while Kristin Bignell had five. Senior Lindsey Schlegel and Dani Reinert recorded 24 and 16 assists, respectively.
Defensively, freshman Kelly Svoboda had 18 digs, while Schlegel finished second with nine. Bignell had five total blocks, including one solo, while Niekamp finished with four block assists.
The Bulls begin MAC Tournament play on Tuesday looking for a first round victory for the second straight year. The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals are in Toledo, OH beginning on Friday.
