Volleyball Raises Over $4,500 During Dig For The Cure

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team had its annual Dig For The Cure event on Saturday night at Alumni Arena, raising over $4,500 for the Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The Bulls received flat donations and money based on their statistics from tonight's 3-0 loss to Central Michigan.
The Chippewas went on to take the match 25-21, 25-15, 25-17 as they hit .388 for the match, opposed to just .097 for UB. The Bulls came out firing in the first set as they turned an early 14-9 deficit into a 14-14 tie on a 5-0 run. Central Michigan responded with a 6-2 run, but UB would again cut it to within two at 22-20. However the Chippewas went on to score three of the last four points to take the set. The Chippewas went on to hit .556 in the second set as they took that one easy at 25-15.
UB came out following the break and attacked early taking a 12-11 lead following a CMU attack error. However, Central Michigan responded with a 5-0 lead to take a 16-12 lead in the set. UB cut it to within two at 17-15, but CMU got its lead back up to six with a 22-16 advantage. Following a UB point, the Chippewas scored the final three points for the win.
The Bulls were led by seven kills from Dana Musil and Kayla Govier. Freshman Christine Fritschee added five kills and five digs as she saw her first action of the weekend. Senior Lindsey Schlegel and freshman Dani Reinert split time running the offense as they recorded 12 and 10 assists, respectively. Reinert and junior Heather Pyle each had two service aces.
Defensively, Pyle led the way with 11 digs, while Musil added seven. UB had four total team blocks led by two from Kristin Bignell, Govier and freshman Carissa McKenna.
UB moves back to play against the MAC East next weekend as they head to Bowling Green on Friday night. The Bulls then go on to Miami (OH) on Saturday evening.
