
UB Volleyball To "Dig For The Cure" Saturday Night

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team will be holding its annual Dig For The Cure match on Saturday night when the Bulls take on Central Michigan at 6:00 pm at Alumni Arena. The team is raising money for Roswell Park Cancer Institute—working with TeamCure and "WeCanRow"—Buffalo, NY in efforts to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research.
The UB volleyball team has been doing their part to promote the match and raise money for breast cancer research. They have been collecting pledges per their specialty on the court for, digs, assists, kills or aces, as well as selling pink ribbons for $2 apiece. The team also be hosted a pick-up volleyball game Wednesday morning as part of UB's Spirit Week and True Blue Days leading up to the homecoming football game. At UB's football contest against Temple on Saturday at noon, half of the proceeds from the 50/50 raffle will go to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Also, pink t-shirts with blue print "Buffalo Bulls" will be available to purchase at the football game and volleyball match for $10. At UB Stadium, the shirts will be sold at the North and South ticket entrances.
During the volleyball match the first 200 fans will receive free pink popcorn. There will be an honorary "first serve" by two breast cancer survivors that are part of the "WeCanRow"-Buffalo, NY, who played volleyball in college. Family and friends of the UB volleyball team that are breast cancer survivors will also be honored.
In addition, fans can buy raffle tickets the night of the match and win prizes including Buffalo Bills merchandise and suite tickets, a UB Bulls prize basket, a My Tomato Pie gift certificate, a Buffalo Sabres autographed hat and four tickets to see The Nutcracker at Shea's Performing Arts Center. We will also be auctioning off autographed pink jerseys of the UB seniors.
This is the first season that the volleyball team is partnering with the WeCanRow program, however the group have been affiliated with UB Athletics for more than a year. WeCanRow-Buffalo, NY has teamed up with the University at Buffalo Women's Rowing Team to offer a recreational novice rowing program. Members can learn how to build a healthier lifestyle through a rowing program with female cancer survivors who are in different phases of survivorship.
The Dig For The Cure event is in its third season at Buffalo and is held all around the country by volleyball programs in all divisions, helping promote breast cancer awareness and helping raise funds for research.
