BUFFALO, NY – Freshman Tori Beckman picked up her first conference accolade on Monday afternoon as she was named the Mid-American Conference East Defensive Player of the Week. Beckman tallied 72 digs on the week, helping the Bulls to the title at the Cornell Invitational.
Beckman averaged 5.14 digs per set as she began the week with a 24-dig performance against Syracuse. Beckman then went to the Cornell Invitational where she recorded at least 15 digs in all three of UB's three-set victories as the Bulls have won seven of their last eight contests.
"I am glad to see Tori recognized for her outstanding play this past week," said head coach Todd Kress. "She has made a huge difference on this team since the first match and continues to be a big reason for our success."
Beckman currently leads the Bulls with 208 digs on the season and her 4.73 digs per set rank second in the conference. She is also currently second on the team in service aces and assists.
The Bulls begin MAC play this weekend as they head to Miami (OH) on Friday night. UB will then face Bowling Green on Saturday.
