Cross Country Squads Finish in Middle at Penn State Meet

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – The University at Buffalo's men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at the Penn State Blue-White Golf Course finishing in the middle of the pack in both meets.
Rain and temperatures in the upper 50s dictated the racing conditions on Friday. The UB men placed fifth among nine teams with 134 points while the women finished sixth in a 10-team meet scoring 178 points.
In the men's meet, run at 5.2 miles, UB's Jacob Hagen placed 18th among 144 runners. Hagen completed the course in 27:13. Also finishing among the top 30 for the Bulls were Dylan Conway and Ryan Bloom. Conway crossed the finish line in 27:29 to finish 25th overall and Bloom finished 29th in 27:34.
Running at a distance of 6K, the UB women were paced by freshman Katie Sanders (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) . Sanders finished in 22:57 to place 25th overall among 125 racers. Jackie Cavalluzzo was the next finisher for the Bulls in 23:39 to take 38th place.
The host Nittany Lions won the women's meet with 33 points, just ahead of Ohio State's 47. Michigan rolled to a men's win with 25 points to outpace second-place Geneseo State's 40 points. Penn State's Cheryl Spring won the women's individual race in 21:13 while Lee Berube of Geneseo State won the men's race in 26:22.
The Bulls host the UB Stampede Invitational at Beaver Island State Park in Grand Island on Saturday, September 19 in their next action. The men's 8K race will begin at noon with the women's 5K race to follow at 12:45 pm.
