Bulls Open Season With 3-0 Sweep of Boston College

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team did something it hadn't done since 2005 on Friday night, win its season-opening match. The Bulls swept the Boston College Eagles, 3-0, at Alumni Arena as they began play in the 2009 University at Buffalo Invitational. The win was also UB's first against an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent since defeating NC State in 2003.
Freshman Tori
Beckman recorded a team-high 17 digs in her first ever
collegiate match, while junior Marisa
Hornbaker added eight digs, six kills, two block assists
and one service ace. Junior Lindsey
Schlegel finished the night with a match-high 32 assists.
She also had three kills, a service ace and a solo block.The Bulls
took the match 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 as UB hit .242 on the night,
opposed to just .076 for Boston College. Redshirt junior Kelsey
Lueders led the Bulls with 11 kills. Lueders was playing
in her first match in almost a year as she was forced to miss last
season with a foot injury. Lueders also recorded just one error on
19 swings for a team best .526 hitting mark. Lueders also added two
block assists. Senior Dani
Silvers added nine kills, with just two errors on the
night.
Boston College was led by 12 kills from Mollie Kolosky and 18 digs from Brennan Clark. Krissy Mussenden added 25 assists.
