Bulls Successful in First Day of Zippy Invite

AKRON, OH- The University at Buffalo swimming and diving team kicked off day one of the annual Zippy Invite, hosted by the University of Akron this afternoon. After the first day, the women stand in fourth place, while the reigning meet champion men's team sits in second place.
The women's team opened the meet with a second-place finish
in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Jessie
Koltz, Sam
Palma, Jordan
Deren and Caroline
Simmons finished in a time of 1:35.57. Deren swam the 500
freestyle in the first women's individual event, earning a
fourth-place finish in a time of 5:04.08. Emma
Miller (5:12.04), Amanda
Reall (5:12.33) and Kim
Dale (5:13.88) finished respectively in the bonus
consolation final heat. In the 200 IM, Brynn
Marecki took fourth place in a time of 2:09.01,
with Alie
Schirmers following close behind in seventh place with a
time of 2:09.88. Karly
Moore took 15th in a time of 2:11.92. Katelyn
Pratt-Collins won the bonus consolation heat in a
season-best time of 2:11.69. Simmons tied for first place in the 50
freestyle in a season-best time of 23.46, tying Akron's Steph
Zielinski. Koltz took eighth place in a time of 23.98, while Palma
took 15th in a time of 24.48. The women's team wrapped up the
night with a ninth-place finish in the 400 medley relay.
Competition continues through Sunday.
