Andy McCollum begins his second season with the UB football program. He was elevated to senior defensive analyst/chief of staff prior to the 2022 campaign.
McCollum has over 40 years of coaching experience, most notably as head coach at Middle Tennessee State from 1999-2005. He oversaw the Blue Raiders' transition from FCS to FBS. McCollum led MTSU to a 6–5 record in 2000, their first as an FBS program. In 2001, McCollum oversaw an offense that ranked fifth nationally and MTSU finished 8–3 and co-champions of the Sun Belt Conference. In 2005, MTSU's defense ranked ninth nationally.
McCollum most recently served as defensive coordinator at Western Carolina in 2020. He also spent nine seasons as a defensive assistant coach at Georgia Tech (2010-2018), three seasons as linebackers coach at NC State (2007-09) and five seasons as linebackers coach at Baylor (1994-98).
