IRVING, TX – Former University at Buffalo standout Red Murdock has been named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society – comprised of college football players who maintained a cumulative 3.2 or better grade point average throughout their college career. It marks the 14th time in the last 15 years a UB player has made the prestigious list.
Murdock, a psychology major, has been a standout on the field as well as in the classroom. He was a three-time Academic All-MAC and Academic All-District Team selection as well as a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. The graduate linebacker led the MAC and ranked second in the nation in tackles with 142 in 2025. It was the eighth-best single-season tackle total in program history. He added 13.5 tackles for loss, five sacks and six forced fumbles. He finished his career by setting the NCAA record for career forced fumbles with 17.
In order to be eligible for membership into the honor society, a player must be a senior who will graduate this spring/summer and just completed his final year of playing eligibility in 2025 or a graduated player, who has been out of high school at least three years. The player must have attained a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.2 (4.0 scale) and been a starter or significant contributor throughout the 2025 season.
