MIAMI, FL – The University at Buffalo football team dropped their first game of the season at FIU, 33-20, at Pitbull Stadium on Saturday night. Big plays by the Panthers offense allowed the home to pull away for the victory.

FIU jumped out to a 7-0 lead on its first possession on a 45-yard touchdown pass. It was the first of two long touchdown passes in the game for the Panthers.

Oliver Hautanen got the Bulls on the board with a 51-yard field goal, midway through the first quarter. It was the first goal attempt of the sophomore kicker's career. He added a 45-yard field goal in the second quarter to account for the Bulls's first-half scoring.

Trailing, 21-6, at the half, Logan Goodwin pounced on a FIU fumble on the Panthers' first drive of the second half and the Bulls capitalized by scoring on their ensuing possession. Jason Wright found Chance Morrow for a two-yard touchdown and called his own number for the two-point conversion to cut the FIU lead to 21-14.

The Panthers responded by scoring 12 unanswered points to take 33-14 lead in the fourth quarter.

Wright found his favorite target, Morrow, again for a 23-yard touchdown, with 5:58 remaining, to cut the Panther lead to 33-20. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as FIU held on for the victory.

Morrow, who had a three-touchdown performance in the opener, had the best game of his career. He finished with 11 receptions for 173 yards and two touchdowns. The 11 catches were the most by a Bull since Justin Marshall had 11 in the 2022 Camellia Bowl and the 173 yards were the eighth most for a single game in Buffalo's FBS era.

Wright saw the most significant action of his young career and sparked UB's near comeback. The sophomore signal-caller went 13-of-27 for 185 yards and two touchdowns on the night.

SaVeon Brown led the defense with a game-high 10 tackles and two pass breakups. Ronnell Davis, Stevie Bracey and Zach Bergmann each added nine stops.

The Bulls will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Penn State.
