CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly track and field awards on Tuesday, naming Michael Parks of the University at Buffalo track and field team the Men's Track Athlete of the Week. The announcement marks the senior's second time earning the honor.
Parks set a school record for the Bulls in the 110-meter hurdles for the second week in a row, this time posting a time of 13.72 seconds in the preliminary round of the event at Cornell's Big Red Invite. The performance surpassed his previous school record of 13.95 seconds by over two tenths of a second. Parks' time ranks first in the conference, 17th in the NCAA East Region and 25th in the NCAA. The senior later won the finals of the event, finishing in 13.74 seconds. Parks also qualified for the finals of the 100-meter dash (10.73) and helped the Bulls to win the 4x100-meter relay (40.67). The relay time was a season best for the Bulls and was within a second of the program record (39.88), which has stood since 2014. All results from the Big Red Invite.
The announcement adds to a strong senior campaign for Parks, who defended his MAC title in the 60-meter hurdles at conference indoor championships while also posting a school record time of 7.83 seconds. The senior transferred that success to the outdoor season thus far, breaking the 110-meter hurdles record that had stood since 2015 twice.
Parks is also the third athlete from the track and field program to earn the weekly award from the conference this year, joining Kara Moran and Stella Kapp, who earned MAC Field Athlete of the Week honors during the indoor season.
The Bulls will next compete at home, hosting the UB Alumni Invite at Broadview Stadium on UB's North Campus on Friday, April 17th. Complete schedule for UB Track & Field. More information regarding the home meet.
