Bulls’ 2024-25 Campaign Comes to an End at Akron
3/7/2025 10:52:00 PM | Men's Basketball
AKRON, Ohio – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (9-22, 4-14 MAC) concluded their 2024-25 season at James A. Rhodes Arena against the Akron Zips (25-6, 17-1 MAC) on Friday evening. The Zips came away with an 88-70 win over the Bulls.
Lloyd McVeigh had a career night for the Bulls as he set career-high marks in points (11) and field goals made (4). He led the team with 6 rebounds. Ryan Sabol added 14 points as did Ben Michaels.
With the energy pulsating through the arena on Akron's senior night, it was hard for the Bulls to capture any momentum. The Zips led wire-to-wire as Buffalo couldn't keep up with the MAC's top scoring offense. Akron went into the half leading, 47-23.
The Bulls didn't give in as they outscored the Zips, 46-41, in the second half. The Zips, the league's top-seeded team, went on to hold off the Bulls.
Tyson Dunn ends the season with 167 assists which is seventh in program history on the single season assists list.
Ryan Sabol finished the season 10th in made threes in a single season with 79. In his career, he's up to 141, which is good for eighth in program history.
As a team, the Bulls attempted 800 three-pointers on the season. That's the fourth most attempted in program history as their 243 made threes is the sixth most.
QUOTING HEAD COACH GEORGE HALCOVAGE III
"Obviously, that's the best team in our league and they played like it tonight. They [Akron] came out and got out to a hot start. There was a lot of energy in here for their senior night. We didn't come out with a sense of urgency we would have liked to. However, I'll say this about our guys; the resilience, the fight, the character of these guys to go down to a really good team by 23 points in the first half then to come back out and win that second half by five points. They kept battling and never gave in, can't say enough about our guys. I'm really proud of guys like Lloyd McVeigh who haven't played very much in the rotation lately to come in and step in there. Tim Oboh out of the game, for Lloyd to play 17 minutes and impact the game the way he did, especially the majority of the second half, speaks to the character of these guys."
