
Melamud Joins UB Diving History on Day Two of Zippy Invite

AKRON, Ohio – The University at Buffalo swimming and diving program competed in day two of the Zippy Invite on Friday. The Bulls finished the second day of the meet ranking third of seven teams in the women's standings.
DAY TWO DIVING
The Bulls earned four of the top six spots in the three-meter diving finals. Maggie Meyers led the team with a second-place finish (278.80). Adele Melamud earned fourth (270.75), Presley Dorsett placed fifth (265.80) and Mallory Hanna finished sixth (256.40).
The Bulls have had four or more divers place inside the top seven in each event this season. Of the nine events the team has competed in, the Bulls have taken 53 of the top 63 spots on the leaderboard.
In the preliminary round, Melamud posted a first-place finish and a personal record score of 321.55 to enter the program's all-time top 10 for the event. The freshman rose to seventh in the program ranks.
The Bulls earned five of the top nine spots in the preliminary round. Dorsett earned fourth (280.10), Hanna finished fifth (260.90), Meyers took sixth (259.95) and Daphne Fox placed ninth (238.80). Sophie Meuwissen (227.80) placed 12th, putting six Buffalo divers inside the top 12 in the field of 21 competitors.

DAY TWO SWIMMING
"We had many great swims tonight," said Head Coach Andy Bashor. "It's exciting to watch our athletes make changes from the morning and get great results. We look forward to competing again tomorrow."
Ava Cunningham placed fifth in the A-Finals of the 500-yard freestyle with a season best time of 4:56.15. Cunningham qualified for the finals of the event with a preliminary round time of 4:59.46.
Elise McCaul placed second in the B-Finals of the 500-yard freestyle, placing 10th in the event field of 33 swimmers with a time of 5:01.09. Karen Austin also competed in the B-Finals, placing eighth in the heat with a time of 5:08.09 to put three Bulls inside the top 16.
Bella Forsman posted a top three finish in the 200-yard individual medley, taking third in the field of 59 swimmers with a time of 2:02.20. Forsman qualified for the A-Finals with a first-place finish in the preliminary round (2:02.45). Grace Rider also competed in the A-Finals, placing eighth overall with a time of 2:04.91. Kamilla Nemes earned a second-place finish in the B-Finals, putting three Bulls inside the top 10 with a time of 2:02.89. Nicole Aguilar (13th, 2:04.28) and Pinar Donmez (18th, 2:02.36) also competed in the finals. Aguilar's time was a season best.
Hattie Wasmuth rounded out the Bulls' qualifiers for the 200-yard individual medley, making the cut for the C-Finals with a preliminary round time of 2:06.92. The freshman placed 22nd overall in the field of 59 swimmers with a time of 2:05.93.
Aguilar also qualified for and competed in the A-Finals of the 50-yard freestyle. The senior placed sixth overall in the field of 68 swimmers with a time of 23.41. The time was a new personal record. Freshman Alex Bulat trailed closely with a time of 23.52 to place seventh. The freshman's preliminary round time of 23.51 was a personal best.
Amanda Jurgelon competed in the B-Finals of the 50-yard freestyle for the Bulls, placing 15th overall in the field of 68 with a time of 23.94. The junior's preliminary round time of 23.80 was a season best. Jillian Strine placed 20th for the Bulls too, posting a time of 23.85 to put four Buffalo swimmers inside the top 20 to place.
The Bulls rounded out day two with a third-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Vivian Roy, Donmez, Aguilar and Forsman completed the event in 3:42.19, a season best time for the program.
