BUFFALO, NY - For the second time this year, University at Buffalo linebacker Red Murdock was named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
A psychology major with a 3.46 grade point average, Murdock was named the Defensive Player of the Game at the Bahamas Bowl after a standout performance in Buffalo's win over Liberty. He had a game-high 13 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and an interception. He returned his interception 31 yards for a touchdown to ice the game for the Bulls.
A redshirt-sophomore, Murdock was a 2024 All-MAC First Team selection. He was recently named to the Academic All-District Team, placing him on the ballot for Academic All-America.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. Each week schools are asked to nominate one female and one male among the sports that are in season at the time. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
