Bulls Fall To Akron on Senior Day

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo swimming and diving team hosted senior day on Saturday afternoon, taking on Akron. The Bulls fell to the defending MAC Champion Zips, 181-118.
Prior to the meet the Bulls honored their eight graduating student-athletes. This year's graduating class has its name all over the program record books, combining for seven school records, 35 all-time top ten performances, five First-Team All-MAC selections, two Second-Team All-MAC selections, 12 Academic All-MAC selections and two CSC Academic All-District selections.
IN THE POOL
Karen Austin opened the individual events for the Bulls with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle. The junior finished the event with a season-best time of 10:36.37. Ava Cunningham trailed to take third for the Bulls too with a time of 10:38.05.
Grace Rider won the 100-yard breaststroke for the Bulls with a time of 1:05.30. Ava Pauly trailed to take fourth (1:05.79). The top four swimmers to place in the event all finished within half a second of each other. Rider later took third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.38, as Pauly trailed to take fourth (2:25.68).
Elise McCaul (1st, 5:07.39) and Isabella Forsman (5:08.07) combined to take first and second place in the 500-yard freestyle. McCaul also earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.33, trailing the first-place swimmer by under a second (1:52.41). The junior's time was a season-best.
Forsman finished second in the 200-yard butterfly too with a time of 2:03.50. The freshman was two seconds shy of her personal record performance (2:01.56). Forsman ended her day taking second place one more time in the 100-yard individual medley, finishing the event with a time of 58.44 and falling just shy of her personal record time (58.40). Nicole Aguilar finished fifth in the event with a time of 1:00.44 to add another point for the Bulls.
Aguilar took third to earn three points for Buffalo in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.54. Freshman Maddy Schnelzer added another in fifth with a time of 58.52.
Mia Naccarella had a pair of second-place finishes in the backstroke events. The graduate student earned second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.35, following the first-place finisher by just over half a second (54.68). Naccarella placed second in the 200-yard backstroke too with a time of 2:02.50. Vivian Roy trailed to take fourth and earn points for the Bulls with a time of 2:07.73.

THE DIVING WELL
The Bulls dominated the diving well against the Zips, with Marialis Kwak winning both the three-meter (341.03) and the one-meter (294.45). Kwak has won all 13 individual diving competitions she's competed in this season.
The Bulls took five of the top six spots in three-meter diving with Kwak leading the way. Sophie Meuwissen (2nd, 279.60), Mallory Hanna (3rd, 277.65), Kaylee Donovan (4th, 273.23) and Presley Dorsett (6th, 256.95) were Buffalo's top five finishers. Maggie Meyers (8th, 248.85) and Daphne Fox (9th, 224.10) rounded out the Bulls' competitors. Meyers score was a new personal record.
In the one-meter, Kwak led the way again for the Bulls as they took seven of the top eight spots. Dorsett placed second (280.80), with Meuwissen earning another podium finish and a new personal record score of 276.75. The sophomore's score fell just short of the program's all-time leaderboards (278.85). Hanna (4th, 266.48), Donovan (6th, 245.18), Meyers (7th, 243.30) and Fox (8th, 241.50) rounded out Buffalo's competitors.

UP NEXT
The Bulls are back in action on January 31st and February 1st when they compete in a two-day tri-meet at Bowling Green and Toledo.
