CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced on Wednesday that Marialis Kwak of the University at Buffalo swimming and diving team was selected as this week's MAC Diver of the Week. The senior diver has now won the award four times this season.
With three MAC schools in attendance, Kwak won all three individual diving events at the annual UB Diving Invite. The senior opened the weekend on Friday with a win in the three-meter finals, posting a school record score of 363.05. Kwak also took first place in the preliminary round of the event (298.5) in the field of 30 divers.
The senior doubled back on Saturday to win the one-meter finals with a score of 286.50, also earning a first-place finish in the preliminary round (302.05). Kwak was a member of the Bulls' team diving trio that took first place on Saturday too with a score of 255.80. The senior then closed out the weekend of competition on Sunday with a win in platform diving, taking first place with a score of 236.50. Kwak's platform diving score qualifies her for the NCAA Tower Zone Diving Championships this spring.
Kwak has won all 11 individual diving competitions she has competed in this season.
The senior continues to enter historic territory, now becoming the second swimmer or diver in program history to win four or more MAC Athlete of the Week awards in a single season. Kwak joins diver Victoria Franz, who won the award six times last season. The senior has the chance to tie Franz's single-season program record with two meets to go this season ahead of conference championships. No other female diver in the conference has won the weekly honor more than twice this season.
The Bulls will honor Kwak and all their graduating student-athletes this Saturday at 10:40 am in the Alumni Arena Natatorium as they take on the Akron Zips. A full schedule for UB Swim & Dive can be found here. The Bulls will host this year's MAC Championships from February 26th through March 1st.
